Damn, I was not emotionally prepared for Only the Brave. I honestly didn’t know what it was about and I’m glad I went in without that knowledge because it made it far more shocking and moving.
Bleed For This: Film Review
I have been pretty fed up of boxing dramas in recent years because I think the genre has been done to death and they all follow the same formula. Bleed For This certainly doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it felt refreshing in terms of tone and character.
La La Land: LFF Film Review
I have not been this excited about a film since Star Wars last year and following the critical acclaim it received at the Venice Film Festival, my hype for La La Land was huge and my expectation level so high and it was exactly what I wanted and more. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it.
War Dogs: Film Review
War Dogs is based on two real-life 20-something arms dealers, who were covered in a Rolling Stone article and furthermore a book called the Arms and the Dudes by Guy Lawson. You would never believe their story otherwise – what goes down is nuts and unbelievable but told in a very entertaining way, thanks to the man behind The Hangover movies, Todd Phillips.
Top Films for August
August is here which means more movies for your cinema-going selves! There are plenty to choose from this month but I’ve whittled it down to the ones I’m most excited about.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Film Review
The issue with the Divergent franchise is that it has always been far too similar, and not as good as, The Hunger Games, which also suffered a slump in its third movie because the final book was unnecessarily split into two films – an obvious money-spinning ploy which negatively impacts the momentum and energy of the movies. The Divergent series has never been amazing, but Allegiant is a new low that won’t even please fans of the novel.
My Top 10 Movies of 2015
Looking back over the past year, there have been some pretty damn good films. But I still had trouble picking my top ten – finding the first six was easy, but the remaining four were not as convincing. So many films I liked at the time, but over the passing months have left little impression. I finally managed to bring you my annual list, which is presented in no particular order.
Fantastic Four: Film Review
The reviews for this reboot of Fantastic Four have been terrible to say the least but I went into a screening with an open mind and the hope that I’ll see it differently – that was not the case. No matter how badly I wanted to be different to the critics, it was just impossible. There is SO much wrong with this movie that it has taken me three days to articulate my feelings properly.
Fantastic Four: Is it doomed?
I have not known a superhero movie to receive such bad buzz so close to its release in a REALLY long time, but Fantastic Four is released on Friday and the word on the street is not good, especially since early press reviews are not allowed to be published far in advance. I find it really surprising since the 20th Century Fox studio seemed really big on its promotion months ago.
Top Films for August
It’s that time again… new month, a ton of new movies coming your way and here’s my list of must-see films this August.
