Think Like a Dog: Film Review

Think Like A Dog

If you are desperate to find something new for your young child to watch – something that is sickly sweet, breezy, and average – then Think Like a Dog is right up your street.

Love, Simon: Film Review

Transformers: The Last Knight – Film Review

I’m of the belief that they should have called time on the Transformers franchise years ago and I never felt particularly excited about The Last Knight upon seeing the trailer but I’ve seen all the others and it was only right I saw this. It is exactly what you would expect, no more no less, so I imagine franchise fans will be satisfied.

Big Pics: David Beckham, Britney Spears & Fergie

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden is back with her man and she doesn’t care who knows it! She denied she was back with Miami Heat basketball star, Wladimir Klitschko, in January when reports first surfaced but she now seems to be very open about it! The actress and the Ukranian athelete had an on-off relationship until they finally broke up in May 2011. To get back together again!

Fergie & Josh Duhamel

Fergie tweeted this picture of her behind the scenes rehearsing at the Kids Choice Awards with her husband Josh. He was presenting the show and did a pre-recorded skit with his wife, who seemed unfazed by his choice of clothing!

David Beckham

David showed off his latest tattoo (and fine abs!) while on his tour of China. The inking saying: “Life and death are determined by fate, rank and riches decreed by Heaven.” Also on the trip, Beckham showed off his football skills. That is, until he skidded and fell on his arse!

Harry Styles

This old photo of Harry in a silver thong has somehow surfaced! The singer was 16 at the time during the X Factor run. Why on earth was he wearing this while ironing?!

Britney Spears

Britney showed her Twitter followers her new man, David Lucardo, while waiting for a Cirque Du Soleil show to start. Dave is just a normal dude- he is a field researcher for a law firm. It is uncertain how they met. You can see them below holding hands.  All in can think is, DAMN, girl moves on fast.

Bizarrely, Britney was also spotted with a plain band on her ring finger while in the Las Vegas airport. What could this mean?!

Safe Haven: Review

This movie was panned by critics and I just don’t know why. I totally loved Safe Haven and it is now my second favourite Nicholas Sparks adaptation after The Notebook. It is definitely better than Dear John and The Last Song and it was different to the usual Sparks formula.

The film begins with Erin (Julianne Hough) running away from her house in a panic and covered in blood. She skips town and a police officer is determined to find her as she is a suspect for first degree murder. She ends up in Southport, North Carolina were she settles down, calls herself Katie and gets a waitressing job. She makes friends with her neighbour Jo (Cobie Smoulders) and starts to get a bit friendly with the local shopkeeper, Alex (Josh Duhamel). The police finally track her down, but can their romance weather the truth?!

Sparks novel adaptations are generally expected to be schmaltzy, romantic and clichéd. I understand that, and this can be in places. I just think they’ve got a bad rep and critics just rip them apart because that is what is expected. This was far better than I imagined and different to the usual genre. It was romantic but there was a thriller element to it with the police chase and “the crime” at the beginning which we find out about towards the end. There is a brilliant villain character in this film but I won’t say who because it spoils the surprise. He is truly terrifying and you will worry about someone getting hurt. The action near the end makes the film miles better than other Sparks movies as it was action-packed, intense and thrilling. Since I  haven’t read the book, I was shocked by the big reveal.

I didn’t have much faith in the acting of Julianne because she was only in dancing movies before and this is her first leading, proper acting role and I thought she did a brilliant job. She looks great too- I love her hair. Josh is usually an action guy so it was nice to see him do something romantic. I thought the chemistry between the two leads was hot. I didn’t really think the casting of Cobie was quite right but I think that’s because I’m so used to her being Robin in How I Met Your Mother. However, the star of the movie was Alex’s daughter, Lexie, who was the cute and so articulate!

I had two issues with this: first, there is scene in which they go out in a boat and it rains. This felt like a total copy of The Notebook- I compared it with that for the entire scene. Secondly, the second twist at the very end was a bit random and left me feeling a bit bewildered. I thought the ending was going to be perfect and happy and then they dropped that bombshell that undermined everything that had happened before. Had the cut that bit out, I would have loved the movie 100%.

Yes, it is romantic and a little schmaltzy, but it is a Sparks movie after all. It is so much more than that though- it has action, thrills and twists. I highly recommend.

Top Films for March

Richard Gere plays a dodgy-dealing hedge fund manager who is looking to sell it for a handsome fee despite fiddling with the figures to cover a massive investment loss. Obviously, his life is pretty crazy trying to cover that up. His life really goes down the pan when he is in a car accident with his mistress and she is killed. This will ruin his marriage and his financial reputation if he is caught but the police are already on his tail. How will he get out of his mess?! Don’t think of it as a financial drama because it is more the study of a man who bit off more than he could chew. Gere looks on top form. Also starring Susan Sarandon and Tim Roth. Released 1st March

Safe Haven

I love me a Nicholas Sparks adaptation. I haven’t read this book but the trailer already has me hooked. Julianne Hough plays Katie, a woman running away from a dark secret. She moves to a quiet town in North Carolina where she meets Alex (Josh Duhamel), a widower who seems to offer the feeling of safety she craves. This turns upside down when the police come looking for her…what could her dark secret be?! I can’t wait to see! Released: 1st March

This is a creepy thriller about a seriously messed-up family. Nicole Kidman loathes her daughter, India (Mia Wasikowska) and, after her father dies, the uncle (Matthew Goode) comes to live with them. The uncle is very weird, rather incestuous and although India knows he is not a good man, she becomes increasingly infatuated with him. This is such a refreshing idea and I’m curious as to how it all pans out. Released: 1st March

Side Effects

When Emily (Rooney Mara) attempts suicide, psychiatrist Jonathon (Jude Law) eventually gives her experimental drug Ablixa as nothing else seems to work. Emily ends up killing somebody and when the case goes to trial, Jonathon tries to plead insanity. His career ends up in the spotlight and his ability as a psychiatrist is questioned. Was this his fault? Was the murder a side-effect, or is there more to the story?! This is a very intriguing thriller and I can’t wait to see it. Also starring Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Released: 8th March

The Paperboy

I am picking this purely because I love me some Zac Efron! Zac and Matthew McConaughey play brothers and reporters who are working on a story about a murder. Hillary Van Wetter (John Cusack) is on death row for the crime but the boys are hoping to prove his innocence, along with an obsessed fan, Charlotte (Nicole Kidman). Charlotte has never met Van Wetter but wants to marry him if/when he gets out. Problem is that Zac starts to fall for Charlotte and this begins to complicate their investigation. Released: 15th March

The Host

I can’t wait to see this because I’ve read the book by Stephenie Meyer and I loved it. However, I just don’t know how it will work because you have the thoughts of one person battling with the thoughts of another, within the same body. I don’t know how they will show this. Saoirse Ronan plays Melanie Stryder who (like the rest of the world) has been implanted with “a host”, a soul which will take command of her body. Melanie doesn’t want to give up her body and after months of resistance, the host finally agrees to help her and other, normal humans. Released: 29th March

Fergie & Josh Duhamel expecting a baby!

Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas is expecting a baby with Josh Duhamel.

Fergie, full name Stacy Ferguson, tweeted the news: “Josh & Me & BABY makes three!!! #Mylovelybabybump”- I LOVE the “My Humps” reference.

So happy for the couple. Fergie Ferg and actor Josh (Safe Haven, Transformers) have made no secret about their desire to have children. Fergie, 37, recently said; “We’ll be happy when it happens. It’s not really in our hands but trying is great for our relationship.”

Fergie and Josh, 40, have been married since 2009 after five years of dating.

Big Pics: Celebrity Christmas pictures

Loads of celebrities took to social media to give us a look at their Christmas celebration. Generally, the pictures were of the celebrity with their child/children or a family member, so it will be a bit repetitive. I’m not going to describe the picture unless it needs an explanation. Enjoy the holiday pics!

I saved the best for last! I think these pictures from Nick and Mariah are so cute and they have such an amazing family. Their twins Moroccan and Monroe are adorable!

That’s folks! Hope you had a happy holiday!

All the celebs are at Coachella!

Man, I so badly wish I was at Coachella! Not just because it is an epic three-day festival in California but for the sheer number of celebrities in attendance. You would be able to spot so many there!

The festival has become so popular that it now runs over two weekends. Coachella Valley is near Palm Springs in Southern California, making it about a 90 minute drive from Los Angeles. This means that all the celebs that live there want to go for a well deserved break!

I’m so jealous. I want to go. Here are some of the top pictures from the event.

Katy Perry

Fergie & Josh Duhamel

Vanessa Hudgens & Austin Butler

Joshua Jackson & Diane Kruger

Lily Collins & Emma Watson

Lea Michele & Lauren Conrad

Paris Hilton

Emma Roberts & Chord Overstreet

(who recently got back together!)

Elijah Wood

Kate Bosworth & boyfriend

And that’s not even the lot! There were more celebs there including Cory Monteith, Lindsay Lohan, Jared Leto, Emile Hirsch, Whitney Port, Kellan Lutz, Camille Belle, Usher, Josh Henderson and more! It absolutely crazy how many there are. If I went, I would definitely spend more time celeb-hunting than paying attention to the music!
