The Lion King: Film Review

The Lion King is not just another Disney live-action remake to me, it is THE Disney remake – the one I’ve been waiting for with a mix of excitement and trepidation. As you can probably tell from my previous articles, the 1994 original means a lot to me so the remake had a lot riding on it – so I’m pleased to report I was satisfied, although not completely won over.

Spider-Man: Far From Home – Film Review

Spider-Man: Far From Home has a tough job being the first film after Avengers: Endgame so I’m happy to report that MCU fans will come away satisfied.

The Lion King: The new trailer has filled me with hope

Back in September 2016, when the “live-action” (it’s not live-action FYI) remake of 1994’s The Lion King was announced, I wrote a blog post voicing my concerns, but the trailer has settled these worries and filled me with hope, joy and excitement.

Spider-Man: Homecoming – Film Review

I must admit I wasn’t remotely excited about Spider-Man: Homecoming because it didn’t feel necessary, I had enjoyed both previous iterations and I also had superhero fatigue. The only reason I checked it out while on holiday was because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews and I’m glad I did because it’s a total delight.

The Lion King remake: Why I’m so worried

Today Walt Disney Studios confirmed they are bringing us a “new reimagining” of their 1993 animated classic The Lion King. This is hardly a surprise as they’ve been doing it for a while with Maleficent, Cinderella and most recently The Jungle Book, an impressive CGI spectacular which I loved and it was a massive success critically and commercially. The Jungle Book: Film Review

jungle3

I groaned when The Jungle Book was announced and didn’t feel any hype when the trailer came out. I just didn’t want this beloved tale to be rebooted and I am very against an overreliance on CGI. But I was wrong. The effects capabilities here are beyond anything I have ever seen before – the animals and locations are so realistic and this is the first film since Avatar were 3D actually made a difference. I loved it wholeheartedly.

My top 5 natural disaster movies

san andreas

San Andreas was released in cinemas this week (read my review) and it is all about the biggest earthquake ever registered on the Richter scale. It is big, epic and makes full use of CGI technology. Natural disaster movies are tough to crack – they usually end up being very cliched, cheesy with 2D characters. While I’m not saying my following top 5 are immune to these pitfalls, I still love them and I think of them fondly when talk of the genre comes up.

Chef: Film Review

chef1

I wanted to see this because it looked funny, heart-warming and had a stellar cast. I was certainly right about that and what makes it even better is the food. Like any culinary-based film, you will end up being hungry and the food made here looks gorgeous. It’s like food porn, basically.
