Cafe Society: Film Review

cafe1

I am not what you would call a Woody Allen fan – I like some of his movies but I probably dislike a great deal more – and I wasn’t won over by his most recent efforts Irrational Man or Magic in the Moonlight. I haven’t truly liked one since Midnight in Paris in 2011. But Café Society is one of his strongest movies in recent times and while it’s not completely flawless, I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Now You See Me 2: Film Review

I was a big fan of Now You See Me so I was very happy when this sequel was announced. I love Dave Franco, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo, and Morgan Freeman individually, so having them all together in a movie is the dream. So two helpings are even better – especially with the addition of more favourites Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Radcliffe.

Top Films for July

july1

A new month is here and once again, here are the films I’m most excited about seeing – sadly, nothing on the list is an original idea and it’s mainly sequels or reboots/adaptations. There are a number of obvious choices I have missed off the list for legit reasons, such as Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (this was popular before my time), The Legend of Tarzan (I’ve seen it and I don’t recommend), Central Intelligence (it’s alright) and The Neon Demon (I don’t think I’ll like it).

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Film Review

bat3

I hate to say I told you so but I told you so. I have not once been excited for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cos I thought the central premise could not work, and none of the trailers did anything to change that. I didn’t support Ben Affleck as Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor nor do I enjoy Superman as a character, so this movie had an uphill battle to please me from the start, and as I predicted, it simply didn’t work.

Top Films for March

mar1

It’s that time of the month again guys – movie preview time! There isn’t a huge amount of exciting releases to choose from in March so the list is more compact than usual. But as the saying goes, it’s all about quality over quantity and there seems to be some pretty decent movies on the horizon. Here are my picks:

American Ultra: Film Review

This stoner action comedy will not be for everyone. American Ultra didn’t do too well at the U.S. box office and has received incredibly mixed reviews, but lucky for me, this is right up my street and I totally loved it. It has comedy, it has action and it had Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart kicking ass. What more do you need?

Night Moves: Film Review

night2

I wanted to see this because I had missed it at London Film Festival and it’s finally coming to U.K. cinemas next month. I am basically a big Jesse Eisenberg fan and will see anything he’s in and it was an independent film that piqued my interest.

Divergent

I have already seen this and as a fan of the book, I give it a big thumbs-up. It deserves more but it has been lumped into the same boat as The Hunger Games and will not fare as well in comparison. Read my review here. Shailene Woodley stars as Tris in this dystopian world where the inhabitants are split into factions. She doesn’t fit into one, she is divergent, and that makes her dangerous. Released: 4th

The Double

I want to see this purely to see Jesse Eisenberg plays two people – his shy, boring character goes so unnoticed that nobody is aware of the weirdness when his mega-confident doppelganger arrives. This looks so interesting. Released: 4th [Read more…]
