Cannes 2017: Films to get excited about

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival kicked off yesterday, and as always I’m filled with envy that I’m not there, watching the stars hit the red carpet and seeing the premiere of all these potentially amazing films. For the next ten days, there will be plenty of screenings but there are just a handful that I’m really excited about. Here they are:

Life (2017): Film Review

When Life was first announced, I groaned because the sci-fi genre has been done to death recently and I didn’t think we needed a new space movie. It isn’t original by any means but it is still a very enjoyable and seriously intense thriller.

Over the weekend, Joe Jonas was caught with his arm wrapped around Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner‘s neck and having a smooch while watching a Kings of Leon concert in the Netherlands. The matching seems bizarre and from nowhere but the main problem I had was the reporting of it.

Nocturnal Animals: Film Review

Nocturnal Animals is a difficult film to review because I’m not entirely sure if I made sense of it and understood the deeper meaning, but while it is an odd, intriguing and surprising film, it is without a doubt another triumph for the fashion designer and director Tom Ford, in his second only feature.

Unfortunately, Gyllenhaal didn’t come to the London Film Festival but his absence was replaced by the epic Colin Firth – who isn’t even in the movie but is good friends with director Tom Ford, who previously worked with him on A Single Man.

My Top 10 Movies of 2015

ex1

Looking back over the past year, there have been some pretty damn good films. But I still had trouble picking my top ten – finding the first six was easy, but the remaining four were not as convincing. So many films I liked at the time, but over the passing months have left little impression. I finally managed to bring you my annual list, which is presented in no particular order.

Everest: Film Review

everest4

I have been excited by this for a while because I like disaster movies, this is based on a true story, it has a stellar cast and it looked amazing. I was not let down. Everest was actually better than I expected. It is by no means perfect but it was gripping, heart-breaking and stunning.
