Spider-Man: Homecoming – Film Review

I must admit I wasn’t remotely excited about Spider-Man: Homecoming because it didn’t feel necessary, I had enjoyed both previous iterations and I also had superhero fatigue. The only reason I checked it out while on holiday was because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews and I’m glad I did because it’s a total delight.

Taylor Swift makes me jealous of her squad at the best of times but her pics from her Independence Day weekend celebrations are just the worst. I have serious envy. And she’s not the only one… check out these amazing celeb party pics!!

Oscars 2015: Best & Worst Dressed

87th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

The main fashion event is here!! I could not wait to check out the red carpet fashion from this year’s Oscars and some of the dresses were incredible. My favourite is Rosamund Pike, who totally pulled it out of the bag after several dire choices. Emma Stone was consistent as ever but I fell in love with Anna Faris’ gown – so beautiful. To be honest, nobody was badly dressed (ignoring Lady Gaga’s gloves), so the worst dressed pile are generally ones that weren’t to my personal taste. Enjoy!

Why celebrity lifestyle sites are just a bad idea

blake2

Celebrities should not create lifestyle websites. Full stop. It is not a good idea. It just makes people dislike them. The most famous example is Gwyneth Paltrow and GOOP, which just emphasised how out-of-touch with the real world she actually is and just alienated her from us even further. A number of her posts were subject to ridicule due to the cost of items recommended, the expense or rarity of ingredients used in recipes and annoying tips.

Top Films for October

FILTH

James McAvoy has been praised for his performance by critics so I want to see it purely for this purpose. The content looks quite disgusting. He is a policeman with no moral boundaries and we literally see him, drink, smoke, shag, puke and just be a down-right horrible human being. It will certainly be a shocking movie but the casting of McAvoy has me intrigued. Released: 4th October

HOW I LIVE NOW

I’m almost fed up of the apocalyptic genre but this looks quite good. The trailer has me hooked, as does Saoirse Ronan, who takes the lead in this movie. She is an American sent to the English countryside for a summer and falls in love with Eddie. The world as they know it is totally changed when it is hit with a nuclear blast and they are separated by soldiers. They strive to break free and reunite back at their home. I like the love story edge. Released: 4th October

THANKS FOR SHARING

This comedy-drama has a stellar cast and looks so enjoyable.  It focuses on the lives of three people who suffer from sex addiction and how it affects those around them. Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Gad, Pink and Tim Robbins star. Released: 4th October

THE TO DO LIST

This has a basic storyline but I think the comedic performances will make up for that. Aubrey Plaza stars as Brandy, an over-achiever in high school who realises she should get as many sexual experiences under her belt as possible before heading to college. This obviously paves the way for some funny, awkward scenes. I was mostly sold by the support cast of Alia Sawkat, Bill Hader, Rachel Bilson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Released: 4th October

THE FIFTH ESTATE

Despite being panned by WikiLeaks founders, I think this insight into their 2010/2011 operation of releasing classified information will be very interesting. This thriller sees Benedict Cumberbatch portray the founder Julian Assange. We see the CIA and FBIs reaction when their classified information about Iraqi insurgents gets published in media, thanks to this whistleblower. Released: 11th October

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS

This action movie starring Tom Hanks is based on a true story that happened in 2009. Tom is the captain of a freighter which gets taken hostage by Somali pirates. He then lets himself get taken hostage to save his crew. This looks like really tense stuff and relates to contemporary news, which makes it very interesting. Released: 18th October

Gwyneth Paltrow’s hilarious drunk interview

g2

Gwyneth Paltrow is quite candid in interviews most of the time anyway, but she opened up even more when she had an interview over dinner and she got quite drunk.

An Australian radio show won a dinner with Gwyneth in a charity auction and she was already tipsy by the time they arrived saying: “I am drunk already…. A martini went straight to my head and now wine, with no food. So just watch out!”

The duo mainly spoke to her about things she had previously said in the media, such as the Met Ball (in which she wore that hot pink dress above) and her recent shaving incident before the Iron Man 3 premiere.

Regarding the Met Ball, she said: “It sucked. You always think, ‘Oh my god this is going to be so glamorous and amazing. And then you get there and it’s so hot, it’s so crowded, everyone’s pushing you. It wasn’t fun.” There goes her invitation for next year!

g1

Also, you may remember her telling Ellen DeGeneres that she was “scrambling for a razor” after discovering how sheer her Iron Man 3 premiere dress was (above).

She explains about that a bit more: “I said, ‘No, I got a big ’70s bush’ – which I was kidding. But then it was all a disaster and now I look like an 8-year-old girl, basically.”

The Australians then brought up an interview with Cameron Diaz in which she said she had a married friend with a 70s bush who she and her friends pinned down to tame her downstairs.

g3

Gwyneth then seemed to admit that she was the friend Cameron was referring to (although she is probably kidding!), saying: “Every time I have a bikini wax, Cameron Diaz holds me down. Cheers to our hairless vaginas!”

This is very weird yet rather funny! Gwyneth would probably say this stuff anyway as she is very open- sometimes a bit too much! She doesn’t seem to get embarrassed talking about her private parts or joking about things at her own expense. I love that she dissed the Met Ball because celebrities never bad-mouth events in case it burns bridges in the future. The more interviews she does, the more I am warmer to her. Then she posts something ridiculous on Goop and then she annoys me again.

Iron Man 3: Review

man1

The reason I loved this movie was because it was funny, it had heart and it wasn’t just your standard action movie. There wasn’t constant fighting and it was very dialogue driven. It was clever, witty and hilarious as well as subverting genre expectations for comic effect.

Robert Downey Jr returns as Tony Stark in the third (if not final) instalment in the Iron Man trilogy. He is having nightmares after what happened in the Avengers and is having difficulty coping, so he has put all his energies into refining the iron suit. As you saw in Avengers, he is now with his assistant (now CEO of Stark Industries), Pepper Potts, played by the lovely Gwyneth Paltrow. The military now use an iron suit which is manned by Rhodes (Don Cheadle), called the Iron Patriot.

man4

Things seem to be going smoothly for Stark until a terrorist starts threatening the US with bomb attacks. The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) seems like his most powerful opponent yet but everything is not as it seems. The reveal is hilarious because the villains in action movies are usually so one-dimensional.

man3

It is different to the usual action formula, which I love. It seems to be more focused on making Stark look cool (easy job!), having witty dialogue and being incredibly funny. I laughed more at this than I do intentional comedies these days. Stark is a fallible hero and this is evident from the movie- his suit doesn’t always work,  or it is a prototype not fit for fight/flight or it just listens to JARVIS rather than him. There isn’t really a single fight sequence where Stark gets to kick butt with an all singing and dancing suit. Something seems to go wrong every time and while I liked how refreshing that was, proper action nuts would have been craved a serious battle.

Guy Pearce plays baddie Aldrich Killian

Guy Pearce plays baddie Aldrich Killian

I actually preferred all the down-time moments when we just listen to Tony talk and be all charismatic rather than all the action scenes. I didn’t really like the “evil” Tony faced and while Guy Pearce plays the baddie perfectly, I did think the whole “Extremis” concept was rather crazy. The action scenes got boring after a while, especially as an iron suit versus a red-hot super soldier battle can go on forever.

man2

I loved that Gwyneth got to don the suit and kick some butt, she definitely has more to do than in the previous films and I think that’s great. Before, Tony used to treat her like crap whereas in this movie, he realises how much she means to him and that’s where the film gets its heart. The best part for me is when Tony is in Tennessee and meets a young boy named Harley. He becomes his sidekick briefly and helps him fix the suit. The dialogue between them is hilarious. Kingsley’s Mandarin character had a brilliant twist which he plays perfectly and Rebecca Hall was frankly underused and poorly defined.

man5

This is far better than two and I would whole-heartedly recommend it. It is less action focused than the others and focuses more on Tony as a person but I still really enjoyed it. The plot is as sketchy as any action movie but the dialogue, humour and amazing cast make up for it. As a side note, stay until after the credits to see a hilarious scene with the Hulk!

Gwyneth Paltrow “horrified” by THAT sheer premiere dress

gw1

I’m sure we were all shocked when we saw Gwyneth Paltrow step out in this dress at the Iron Man 3 premiere because it was completely sheer at the sides and she didn’t wear any panties!

Turns out, Gwyneth was also “horrified” when she tried it on as she discovered her “ass was hanging out.” If she was nervous about it, she certainly didn’t look it!

Paltrow had obviously not tried it on previously because she soon panicked about not wearing underwear and called her outfit a “disaster”.

She explained to Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show: “I was doing a show and I changed there and I went I couldn’t wear underwear. I don’t think I can tell this story on TV…Well, let’s just say everyone went scrambling for a razor…So I went from being the most beautiful to the most humiliated. In one day… I work a 70s vibe. You know what I mean?”

gw3

Brilliant! She had to trim her downstairs before the red carpet! The 40-year-old is referring to her being named People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman title. I think she’s pretty but I wouldn’t go much further than that.

She told the magazine that she looks completely different around the house.

“Around the house, I’m in jeans and a T-shirt. I don’t really wear make-up. If I’ve gotten fully dressed up, he [husband Chris Martin] will be like, ‘Oh, wow! You’re Gwyneth Paltrow!’ Because he’s used to seeing me in, like, baggy shorts and frizzy hair.”

It’s weird, she seems so normal when she is on chat shows talking about her life but then she annoys me when she starts banging on about food, health and lifestyle. I’m undecided about her but she certainly looks good.

Big Pics: Beyoncé, Bieber & Gwyneth Paltrow

Beyoncé

beyonce

Check out B holding her daughter really awkwardly. Blue Ivy and Jay-Z were in Paris to support Bey at her show in the capital as part of the Mrs Carter Show tour. She still look good fresh-faced but it’s nice to know she gets frizzy hair too!

Rumour has it that Beyoncé has banned press photographers from her shows and will approve every photo before release to make sure she doesn’t look bad. At least we know she’s insecure!

Justin Bieber

Another day, another tattoo for Bieber. He has got so many recently! They are all on the same arm so he must be working his way up to a sleeve. The new additions are the tiger head at the top and the angel near his wrist, which many people believe looks like Selena Gomez. What do you think?

Glee

naya

Glee celebrated wrapping season four with his amazing cake! Here you can see Naya Riviera (Santana) and Heather Morris (Brittany). It looks so tasty!

Michelle Rodriquez

michelle

I’m not used to seeing her wearing pretty clothes. Normally she is being bad-ass and not wearing anything particularly noteworthy. She opened up about her past mistakes saying: “I had some bad moments. I partied hard. The world knew it. I feel like my growth is a progression. I rebel against everything, including myself. I’m like, ‘oh no, lemme do something f****d up now’. But then I’m like, ‘okay, what am I doing to myself”‘”.

Michelle is a perfect example to Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes that you can get through your problems. Michelle went to jail a number of times between 2004-2008 through bad driving and alcohol problems. She has not committed another crime since her release in 2008. If she can do it, you can do it too guys!

Gwyneth Paltrow

gwyn

I don’t particularly like this dress, but it is very interesting because Gwyneth usually dresses pretty classy. This is completely sheer down the sides and it is obvious she is not wearing underwear- it skims her butt cheeks! This is so unlikely Gwyn. She definitely turned heads at the LA premiere of Iron Man 3.

Big Pics: Taylor Swift, Lea Michele & Rihanna

Taylor Swift

Taylor enjoyed some down time from her Red tour by having a day out at Disney World in Florida. Check out Ed Sheeran’s face next to her! Brilliant! She also got an in-ride snap of her on the Tower of Terror.

Robert Downey Jr

rob

What on earth is Robert wearing?! Poor Gwyneth Paltrow obviously didn’t get the memo about comedy dress. As he was in Germany, RDJ thought he would wear traditional lederhosen with bright green socks. He has the attitude to work it but I wonder if Gwyneth was embarrassed?! He does look pretty silly.

Rihanna

Here, Rihanna is getting ready to give her best friend, Melissa Forde, a surprise cake in bed for her birthday. Loving the pink dressing gown!

Charlie Sheen & Lindsay Lohan

Charlie and Lindsay seem pretty close at the premiere of Scary Movie 5 in LA. Lindsay did show up late but she looked good.

Lea Michele

Lea has been working on her fitness to distract herself from Cory Monteith being in rehab. She worked off her problems by hiking with best pal, Jonathan Groff.
