The Girl on the Train: Film Review

girl

Since the film adaptation of the bestselling murder mystery Gone Girl was such a big hit, it was hardly a surprise when the film rights were snapped up for a similar success story – Paula Hawkins‘ The Girl on a Train. The book was exciting and intense and I read it quicker than usual but it was certainly no Gone Girl. The same can be said for the movie adaptation; it tries to be Gone Girl but it’s not and it’s definitely not as strong as the book.

Dark Places: Film Review

dark3

Dark Places came out in America in the middle of the 2015 and I kept an eye on it because I wanted to see the latest Gillian Flynn novel-to-movie adaptation following the success of Gone Girl. My Top Ten Movies of 2014

?????????????????????????????????????????

2014 has been a great year for movies, but despite that, reaching my top 10 was not very hard at all. Ben Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, who discovers his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) is missing and he is the prime suspect. Did he do it? Check out my review here. Released: 3rd October

As far as book to film adaptations go, this is pretty much perfect. I cannot fault it at all. It is so loyal to the book and with a brilliant cast.

Ben Affleck is Nick Dunne who discovers his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) has gone missing on their fifth anniversary. He ends up being the murder suspect due to his cold behaviour and clues which seem to hint at his misdeeds. The film is told from two viewpoints – one of Nick in the present with the murder investigation and the second from Amy from their past leading up to present in the form of diary entries. But whose version is the truth? Did Nick do it, or is Amy still alive?
