Grammys 2016: Best & Worst Dressed

yes1

Last night was all about the 2016 Grammy Awards but the show is so long and with so many categories that I personally find the red carpet far more exciting. You can usually depend on the Grammys for some divisive fashion choices but I generally liked everything this year – especially this gorgeous look from Taylor Swift. People have been bashing her new bob but I think she looks fantastic.

There were some crazy outfits from absolute nobodies, so they are not included. I have a ton of best dressed and just a few worst dressed which weren’t totally horrible, just a bit naff. The standard is high this year.

Here are my picks:

Met Ball 2013: Worst Dressed

Sarah Jessica Parker's dress/shoes/headpiece are all wrong.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s dress/shoes/headpiece are all wrong.

Well, I have to say, it was definitely easy finding the worst dressed culprits this year as most of the dresses were bad. That sounds dramatic but I would honestly say that three quarters of the guests wore awful outfits while only a quarter shone.

The Met Gala is an annual event to celebrate the opening of an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Really though, it has become more of a fashion parade with a ridiculous amount of celebrities making an appearance and putting in 100% effort into their look.

This year’s spring exhibition is PUNK: Chaos to Couture, so the guests were supposed to dress according to that theme. However, like most themed parties, there were a lot of people who didn’t stick to it AT ALL and others who went totally overboard.

Because this event is like a fashion show for celebrities, it means that they take risks to stand out which leads to a lot of bad outfits. I find more bad outfits from this event than most others! Putting this list together was easy- whittling it down to only 15 people was tough as there were loads more bad dresses.

Grammys 2013: Fashion Hits & Misses

So the Grammys were on in Hollywood last night- on the same date as the BAFTAs which was a genius idea. Anyway, the biggest award ceremony in music always presents some interesting fashion choices and let’s not forget about the strict wardrobe policy the broadcasters CBS imposed on celebrities (read about that here)- not that it was adhered to, ahem, Rihanna.

The show has a ridiculous amount of awards and quite a lot of the winners aren’t recogniseable over here so I’m going to summarise: the biggest winners were fun., Gotye, Jay-Z & Kanye

and country music singer Carrie Underwood. Adele got an award for Set Fire to the Rain and Mumford and Sons picked up best album for Babel. Go the Brits! Kelly Clarkson and Beyoncé also won one each. You can read the whole list here.

The most important thing (of course) is the red carpet fashion to here are my hits and misses.

HITS

Beyoncé

YES1

I love it when celebrities change it up and wear something other than dresses. This outfit is perfect on B. Great choice.

Taylor Swift

YES2

Taylor looks really pretty in this. While I do love it, I can’t help but think she’s worn something similar really recently.

Katy Perry

YES3

Those boobs, oh my! Katy makes the most of her assets but keeps it classy by keeping the rest simple. I love the detailing at the top and the colour. I wonder if CBS is pissed with the amount of boob on show.

Rihanna

YES4

If they weren’t pissed with Katy, they will be with Rihanna- you can see nipple! That is definitely breaking the rules! I think she looks great in it. I just wish she would have covered up her breasts. I know she’s pretty relaxed about nudity but c’mon, on this occassion you could have put them away!

Carrie Underwood

yes5

I’m not so fussy at the bottom part but the bodice is really cool. I love the pattern and the structure plus that necklace makes her look so elegant.

MISSES

Jennifer Lopez

no7

J.Lo is clearly trying to replicate the Angelina Jolie leg. Besides the slit and the awkward pose, this dress is very boring and almost a drape. It doesn’t flatter her at all.

Kelly Rowland

NO3

There are very too many see-through parts to this dress. If they were just on the bottom, or on the top, it would be okay but this is just too much. Her boobs are a bit much too.

Ashanti

NO2

There are parts I don’t like. I like the embroidery and the structured top half (besides the shoulder flaps). I think if the bottom wasn’t so sheer it would be okay. You can see her pants!

Adele

NO1

I appreciate that Adele is trying to break out of her black rut but this is horrible. She just looks like she’s wearing curtains!

Florence Welch

NO5

I hardly ever like what Florence wears but geez, she looks like a reptile! What’s with the spikes?! So weird.

Met Ball: Best & Worst Dressed

So many celebs were out in force last night to attend New York’s top social event, The Met Ball.

Formally known as the Costume Institute Gala, the Ball is a annual event celebrating the opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The gala has been going since 1948 but has been held in different parts of the museum over time.

The gala consists of a dinner and cocktail hour though it is really more about celebrating fashion which means guests are expected to dress in high-end, designer dresses. Staff at Vogue oversee what celebrities are invited so the celebrities in attendance last night should feel very honoured!

However, despite the big emphasis this night puts on fashion, in my eyes, some of the dresses were simply awful. I probably disliked more dresses than loved. Here is my best and worst outfits of the evening.

BEST

Lea Michele

Amy Adams

Jessica Alba

Emily Blunt

Hilary Swank

Dianna Agron

WORST
