Maze Runner: The Death Cure – Film Review

I liked the first two Maze Runner books and their film adaptations but the third instalment, which was delayed due to Dylan O’Brien‘s onset accident, kinda snuck up on me. I had forgotten about it, couldn’t really remember what happened previously, and didn’t have time to read the book. Despite this, I actually enjoyed it a lot.

Deepwater Horizon: Film Review

deep1

It’s hard to believe this happened five years ago but I’m sure we all remember reading about the massive explosion at an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and its devastating impact on the environment. Despite it being thought to be the largest marine oil spill in history, I never knew the name of the rig or anything about its explosion or those who died so new disaster movie Deepwater Horizon sheds light on that side of the story and gives us a blockbuster-style retelling of what went down.

The Maze Runner: Film Review

maze1

This is not a terrible film but when you compare it to other young adult movie adaptations and with the source material, it is not so great. I was a massive fan of the book and I had just finished reading it in time for the screening so every single detail was fresh in my mind and I was constantly aware of how many changes they were making.

Dylan O’Brien plays Thomas, who finds himself in a lift with his memory wiped. He enters The Glade, where a gang of boys are learning to survive their imprisonment. The Glade is surrounded by a Maze that changes every night and is home to deadly creatures called Grievers. Runners traverse the maze to find an escape route but nothing seems to work. However, the arrival of Thomas and a mysterious girl changes everything.

Gone Girl

I have been excited about this for a really long time and this highly anticipated adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel does not disappoint. It cannot fault it. Ben Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, who discovers his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) is missing and he is the prime suspect. Did he do it? Check out my review here. Released: 3rd October
