If Beale Street Could Talk: Film Review

So many film critics have raved about If Beale Street Could Talk and complained about its lack of love this awards season, so I went into Barry Jenkins‘ latest project with the highest expectations and I feel bad admitting that I came away deflated.

My top 10 movies of 2017

A lot of people have been doing their end of year lists since the start of December, but I like to wait a little longer just in case there is a late entry – I thought The Greatest Showman might have made it (it didn’t) – so here are my top 10 films of 2017.

The Disaster Artist: Film Review

James Franco hadn’t been in much memorable stuff since 127 Hours in 2010, but he changed that around this year with both TV series The Deuce and The Disaster Artist. His performance in the movie, which he also directed and produced, is his best in years and he definitely deserves a Golden Globe nomination (an Oscar is too far).

Nerve: Film Review

nerve2

Nerve definitely has a very exciting, original and contemporary concept that I genuinely believe could happen in real life. It’s just a shame that the movie didn’t fully capitalise on that core idea and has many great moments but is lacking a certain something.

Now You See Me 2: Film Review

I was a big fan of Now You See Me so I was very happy when this sequel was announced. Top Films for July

july1

A new month is here and once again, here are the films I’m most excited about seeing – sadly, nothing on the list is an original idea and it’s mainly sequels or reboots/adaptations. There are a number of obvious choices I have missed off the list for legit reasons, such as Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (this was popular before my time), The Legend of Tarzan (I’ve seen it and I don’t recommend), Central Intelligence (it’s alright) and The Neon Demon (I don’t think I’ll like it).

Tonight we not only enjoyed a screening of Now You See Me 2, oh no – we were treated to a magic show with Keith Barry, consultant on the movie, and he got Dave Franco in on the trick.

Bad Neighbours 2: Film Review

bad1

I loved the 2014 comedy Bad Neighbours and since it did so well at the box office it was no surprise a sequel was ordered. I was wary of it though because I didn’t think it could beat the original, be as remotely funny or be anything more than a repeat of previous events. But I didn’t need to worry – Bad Neighbours 2 is brilliant and such a laugh.
