Oscars weekend is upon us! The 2018-2019 awards season culminates with the prestigious Academy Awards on Sunday. The Best Actor and Best Actress categories aren’t completely on lock this year, so here are my choices.
Who should win the Best Actor and Best Actress awards at the 2019 Oscars?
My reaction to the 2019 Oscar nominations: Timothee Chalamet, Sam Elliott, Vice, Buster Scruggs & more!
Here are my hot takes on today’s Oscar nominations.
Vice: Film Review
Vice received the most nominations for this year’s Golden Globes so I just assumed it would be a movie I would like and I was excited to check it out – so naturally, I was surprised that I didn’t like the movie much at all.
My Christopher Nolan top five
Christopher Nolan‘s latest effort Dunkirk comes out on Friday and while I’m in the minority of people who didn’t love it (read my review here), it certainly makes my top five.
The Promise: Film Review
All I knew about The Promise was that Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale were in it, and I was sold, so I had no idea I was in for an intense war epic about the Armenian Genocide. The story was fascinating in a horrifying way but something was off – I should have been in tears and breaking my heart, but I was unmoved.
The Big Short: Film Review
I did not expect a film about the financial crisis to be interesting and entertaining, but The Big Short manages to do both thanks to a terrific cast including Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt and a script which tries hard to make the financial jargon simple.
Top Films for January
A new month and year is rapidly approaching and January brings with it an amazing selection of new films. The month always seems to be filled with stellar movies and Oscar bait and this one is no exception. We also have a lot of movies that have been out in the US for a while so I can’t wait to finally see them. Here are my picks:
Exodus: Gods and Kings Film Review
Now, I am not a fan of the Biblical epic, but I am a massive admirer of Christian Bale’s work and so I still had to check this out. I have to admit: I do not know my Bible stories very well so my knowledge ahead of seeing this was incredibly limited – and I think you would be better off going in with a basic overview of Moses’ story.
Exodus: Gods and Kings World Premiere
The stars of the latest Biblical epic, Exodus: Gods and Kings, headed to London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday night to unveil their movie for the world premiere. Sadly, I didn’t get close to Christian Bale or Ridley Scott but Sir Ben Kingsley came over for a chat, as did Joel Edgerton (plus I got a ticket to the see the movie!)
Big Pics: Miley Cyrus, JT & Kim Kardashian
Miley Cyrus
What is Miley smoking?! It looks pretty suspicious. She didn’t seem to care puffing away while on a balcony in Miami though. She must have known paps would be able to see her.
Kim Kardashian
Kim was hit by rumours that she was faking her pregnancy this week- which is just ridiculous. The reality star decided to post this on Twitter to prove her bump is genuine. Reports were suggesting that she is making it up just because she has put on a load of weight. That is so stupid.
Justin Timberlake & Kiefer Sutherland
Who knew these guys were friends?! Weird pairing, but I guess it makes sense if they both go to the same golf club. JT loves his golf, which is something I don’t get.
Christina Hendricks
I love this shot. If her enviable curves weren’t enough, Christina spoke about how Ryan Gosling picked her to star in his directorial debut, How To Catch a Monster.
She told Flare magazine: “Talk about feeling intimidated. Ryan called me and asked me if I was interested in doing this film and I said: ‘One, of course, yes, and two, why me? And three, I don’t want to disappoint you.’ It’s the largest role I’ve ever had, so this is one I’m definitely aware of my anxiety about.”
Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner & Christian Bale
Earlier in the week, we showed you Bradley Cooper’s perm and Jennifer Lawrence’s amazing hairdo (see here) for their roles in a currently untitled David O Russell movie. Now you can see the 80s transformations of Amy, Jeremy and Christian for the FBI thriller. Jeremy plays a mayor, Christian is Mel, a con artist and Amy is Mel’s mistress and partner in crime. The cast for this is amazing- I hope the movie is just as good!
