The Lion King is not just another Disney live-action remake to me, it is THE Disney remake – the one I’ve been waiting for with a mix of excitement and trepidation. As you can probably tell from my previous articles, the 1994 original means a lot to me so the remake had a lot riding on it – so I’m pleased to report I was satisfied, although not completely won over.
Mary Magdalene: Film Review
Mary Magdalene is a difficult one to review because it isn’t going to appeal to everyone – and I am definitely not this film’s target market. While it is informative and interesting at times, it is very slow and I can’t say I actively enjoyed it.
Doctor Strange: Film Review
I am usually ridiculously hyped for Marvel movies but I never was for Doctor Strange and I don’t know why. Maybe cos it’s so different to the others. I was hoping the movie itself would surpass my expectations but it didn’t. It was good, I liked it but I didn’t come out thinking ‘this is awesome’ like the others.
Secret in their Eyes: Film Review
I had been looking forward to seeing this cop drama because of the stellar cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts but I know many people were dubious because the 2009 Argentinian film, which this is based on, was so good. I have not seen that film so that’s probably why I feeling pretty favourable about this remake.
Top Films for February
It’s the start of a new month which means my usual ‘what to watch’ list. Most of January’s list was comprised of the U.K. playing catch up with releases that had been out in the U.S. for months – but in February we finally get some actual 2016 movies like Deadpool and Zoolander 2. YAAAAY! Here’s my run-down of February highlights:
My Top 10 Movies of 2015
Looking back over the past year, there have been some pretty damn good films. But I still had trouble picking my top ten – finding the first six was easy, but the remaining four were not as convincing. So many films I liked at the time, but over the passing months have left little impression. I finally managed to bring you my annual list, which is presented in no particular order.
The Martian: Film Review
I have been excited for The Martian for such a long time and I even read the book in time for release, and this is even better than Andy Weir’s novel, which is something I NEVER say. My favourite thing about it is the humour – it is possibly one of the funniest sci-fis I have ever seen and the most feel-good film Ridley Scott has ever made.
The Martian European premiere: Pics & gossip
Tonight the incredible cast of sci-fi adventure The Martian turned out in London’s Leicester Square and I went down as a fan for the first time in ages so I could see Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and many, many more.
Trailers of the week: Steve Jobs, Creed & London Has Fallen
Loads of movie trailers seem to have dropped this week so here is my round-up of the ones you really need to see and why.
