Motherless Brooklyn is clearly a passion project for Edward Norton – not only does he star in almost every scene, but he also directed and produced the film and wrote the screenplay, adapted from Jonathan Lethem’s novel, which he has been trying to bring to the big screen for almost 20 years. Although his performance is tremendous, the film itself has serious issues with length, pacing and narrative.
Glass: Film Review
I am a huge fan of James McAvoy and thought he was brilliant in Split so, even though I didn’t care much for Unbreakable, I was looking forward to Glass, the conclusion of M. Night Shyamalan‘s trilogy. However, I came away feeling pretty meh about the whole thing.
James McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Paulson at the Glass U.K. premiere: My pics
Tonight the cast of Glass – Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy, Sarah Paulson and Anya Taylor-Joy – joined director M. Night Shyamalan on the white carpet of the U.K. premiere at London’s Curzon Mayfair.
Big Pics: Bruce Willis, Justin Bieber & Ed Sheeran
Bruce Willis
Check out Bruce enjoying a day out at Disneyland, California with wife Emma and daughter Mabel.
Justin Bieber
What the heck is Bieber wearing?! Why do Chanel make them?!
Tiffany & Co party
The stars turned out for a Tiffany & Co event. Perhaps there was a sweet goody bag?! I love Kate Hudson’s dress but Carey Mulligan’s jacket is very odd. I love Michelle Williams’ hair.
Victoria Beckham
Victoria celebrated her 39th with a tasty-looking chocolate cake. I wonder if she had much of it!
Ed Sheeran
I am LOVING this pic! Ed looks so cute in this Lego costume.
One Direction
Check out the movie poster for the upcoming One Direction movie. I think it’s a crap title to be honest, but I will still watch it!
Ashton Kutcher finally files for divorce from Demi Moore
It’s certainly been a long time coming and Ashton Kutcher has finally taken steps to make his separation from Demi Moore into an official divorce.
See, back in November 2011 when they split, it was reported that Demi had asked for a divorce after Ashton had allegedly been unfaithful. When he started dating Mila Kunis, we assumed that divorce proceedings were under way but it surfaced a few months back that neither party had started anything official. It is a bit strange.
Why didn’t they do it straight away so they could get on with their lives? Did they expect to get back together? Demi was gutted about Ashton’s new romance with Mila after all. Other reports suggested they were never legally married or that they were locked into financial feud.
Anyway, it is now happened. Ashton filed for divorce on Friday at the LA Superior Court, citing the much-used “irreconcilable differences”, according to People magazine, and has got himself legal representation.
Ashton, 34 , and Demi, 50, married in 2005 after dating for two years. They announced their divorce/separation in November 2011. This is Demi’s third divorce- she was married to singer Freddy Moore for four years and actor Bruce Willis for thirteen years. They had three children together- Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. You can see the whole clan below.
Big Videos: Nicki Minaj and Die Hard 5
Nicki Minaj
Here is the video to Nicki’s third international single from the album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Va Va Voom is from the re-issued version of the album. I love the fairy tale theme to the video (some serious Snow White references) and I love Nicki’s outfits. I’m not a great fan of the song but it may grow on me in time.
Die Hard
I cannot believe this- there is a fifth Die Hard movie. This time it is called A Good Day to Die Hard. I personally think it has gone on too long now and the franchise needs to call it a day. However, the trailer does still look good. I like the other films but they are gradually becoming more ridiculous in terms of how believable the stunts are. Bruce Willis is an amazing action hero but he’s looking a bit old. This time around, John McClane heads to Moscow to help his son Jack, who has got into some trouble and they both end up getting embroiled in a terrorist plot.
Looper: Review
The movie was dubbed as “the new Matrix” and I really hoped it wasn’t the case because I’m not a fan of that film. This is quite different and I really enjoyed it. I’m not saying it was absolutely amazing or perfect but it was pretty darn good.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Joe, a looper, an assassin who kills people sent back from the future, where time travel has been invented but is illegal. The people from the future send someone to be killed, Joe does the business and they don’t exist anymore. However, someone from the future called “The Rainmaker” is culling the loopers and sending them back to be killed. When Joe is faced with his future self, played by Bruce Willis, he falters for a moment and Willis manages to escape. He must track and kill his future self and run away from the authorities who want to kill him for his mistake.
It does get a bit dull around the middle once Joe meets Emily Blunt and her son. He chills out on their farm because he knows Willis will get there in his search for the Rainmaker. So there is a lot about feelings, her family and their blossoming relationship at this point- which is nice but at the time, I felt it was detracting from the main plot. I won’t ruin things but I’ll just say that all the little things you think are irrelevant will become important later on.
I thought Joseph was brilliant as a younger Willis. He had prosthetic pieces added onto his face to make him look more like him and he changed his voice as well. Despite these changes, I thought the way he moved and his facial expressions were perfect and it made it believable that they were the same person. It was sad to not see JGL in his usual glory though! Bruce was his usual self. Emily Blunt played a completely different character to what we are used to seeing- she was kick ass and tough-nosed woman and I liked it. Paul Dano was brilliant and I wish he had a bigger role. The stand-out star for me though was Pierce Gagnon, who played Blunt’s son. He is AMAZING and steals the movie.
This is set in the future but it isn’t a completely different world. They don’t use time travel much once Willis arrives and the only real differences are the use of hover motorbikes and that a lot of people have telekinetic powers, which sounds random but it will all make sense later on.
I thought the script was smart, the casting was really good and the action is really entertaining. I would recommend a watch.
Films to Watch This September
Anna Karenina
Keira Knightley plays Anna, who embarks on an affair to help her escape the trappings of her high society life but instead, makes her life remarkably more complicated. Set in late 19th century Russia, Anna begins an affair with Count Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) which ruffles many feathers in the upper classes as her husband, played by Jude Law, is a politician. I think this looks like it is going to tug at the heartstrings. It reminds me of Atonement and Titanic. It is a classic forbidden love tale but I think this will be right up my street. Released: 7th
Lawless
This violent, gangster flick has an all-star cast which is the main reason I want to see it. Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce and Jessica Chastian head up this Prohibition era movie. Hardy and LaBeouf are brothers who run an illegal liquor bootlegging business so the police are onto them. Corrupt Special Agent Charlie (Pearce) is the villain here as he wants a cut of their profits and will threaten them in any way necessary. Things get pretty nasty when he doesn’t get his way. Prepare for violence, guns and some mean, mean men. Released: 7th
House At the End of the Street
Jennifer Lawrence starts in this horror thriller about a creepy neighbour. Not original whatsoever but the fact that Lawrence puts her name to it makes me think it will bring something new to the table. She plays Elissa who moves to a quiet suburban town with her mum and weird stuff starts happening to them. They learn that their neighbour, Ryan, is the soul survivor of a homicide in which his sister killed their parents and disappeared. So far, seems a bit like Dream House. Elissa (foolishly) gets into a relationship with Ryan, which obviously won’t end well. Released: 21st
Savages
This drug gangster movie stars Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, John Travolta, Salma Hayek and Benicio del Toro. Wow! What a cast. Johnson and Kitsch are pot growers who share a girlfriend, O (Lively). When a deal with Mexican drug cartels goes awry, O gets kidnapped, so the boys have to take on the cartels to get her back. I reckon this will be violent and tense. Released: 21st.
Looper
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is wearing prosthetics and has adapted his voice to make him sound closer to Bruce Willis in this time travel movie. Levitt is a looper which means he assassinates people who have been sent to him from the future. One day, he is sent his future self (Willis) and they have a face-off. It becomes a fast paced chase between Willis, Levitt and the guys who wanted them killed. Released: 28th
