My top ten films of 2016

Welcome back, folks! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break. Now is the time to look back over the year in film releases and pick my favourites. These are restricted to films released in the U.K. in 2016 – so it may include films I actually saw in late 2015 and although I desperately wanted to put La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge, Lion and Free Fire on this list, they aren’t out until 2017, so unfortunately they don’t make the cut.

Inferno: Film Review

I wasn’t a huge fan of The Da Vinci Code but I thought I’d give the next Dan Brown book adaptation, Inferno, a shot because the trailer looked exciting and I love Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones. They didn’t let me down – it’s a fun race-against-time movie and I enjoyed it a lot, certainly more than Code.

Hell or High Water: Film Review

Chris Pine ditches his usual fresh-faced and handsome look and heroic/likable parts to play a criminal in need of a shave, who is dirty, bloody and damn-right sweaty in Hell or High Water. It’s nice to see him prove he can do something different, including the Southern accent, although he is still outshone by Ben Foster who plays his slightly unhinged brother.

The Program: Film Review

I found The Program fascinating because I followed the Lance Armstrong doping scandal on the news just a few years ago, so it was great to go back and re-watch his Tour De France glory years knowing what we know now.
