1917 won Best Drama and Best Director for Sam Mendes at the Golden Globes on Sunday and there’s a reason for that. I honestly didn’t think it was going to win over the likes of The Irishman but I was pleasantly surprised and I hope this love continues throughout awards season.

Denial: Film Review

denial

Denial doesn’t seem like a bundle of laughs – a courtroom drama about whether the Holocaust happened hardly makes for an enjoyable night at the cinema. However, it’s not as depressing or dense as you would expect, and it is poignant and absolutely fascinating.

Swallows and Amazons: Film Review

I have not read Arthur Ransome’s 1930 book Swallows and Amazons nor have I seen the 1974 movie so I could come into this remake completely free from expectations, just like the new generation of kids, which this is intended for. So while I can’t compare how it holds up to its predecessor, I can say with certainty that it’s a delightful old-fashioned family film that I hope kids will really enjoy.

Alice Through the Looking Glass Premiere: Pics & gossip

Tonight I went down to the London premiere of Alice Through the Looking Glass, and much like the press conference on Sunday, it starred Johnny Depp, Sacha Baron Cohen, Mia Wasikowska, director James Bobin and producer Tim Burton. They were also joined by minor cast members Ed Speleers and Andrew Scott.

Tonight I went to the premiere for the latest James Bond movie Spectre – which was probably the biggest and most extravagant premiere I have ever been to. Oh my God, the red carpet was so long I couldn’t see the start, it was held at the fancy Royal Albert Hall rather than the regular Leicester Square and I have never seen so much talent for one film!

Spectre always had a struggle on its hands trying to top Skyfall, which was the franchise’s most successful film yet. The hype around Spectre was insane and it failed to deliver on the high level of expectation. That doesn’t mean Spectre is a bad movie, it was simply disappointing because I had hopes for so much more.
