I went down to the Imperial War Museum today to attend the press conference for Sam Mendes’ new war movie 1917. Here are some of my pics and video from the event:
From left to right in all my snaps – director Sam Mendes, co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, cinematographer Roger Deakins, producer Pippa Harris and actors George MacKay, Dean Charles-Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays and Claire Duburcq (with her translator).
The cast and crew opened up about the challenges of making a seemingly one-take war movie with practical sets. I have seen the film I can tell you it is a staggering technical achievement. Mendes, MacKay, Scott and Chapman were particularly good value and provided lots of interesting anecdotes, which I’ll be writing up soon.
In the meantime, here are my pictures and video from the event:
The film – which had its premiere in London last night – doesn’t actually hit cinemas until 10 January. Keep an eye out for my review that week.
