Top Films for September

It’s the start of September which means it’s time to look ahead at this month’s cinema releases. Here are the ones I’m looking forward to the most.

It Chapter Two

I loved the terrifying first chapter of It and so I was excited to see how the story concludes. This film is set 27 years later so the child actors have been replaced with grown-ups including Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and Bill Hader. I’ve already seen it and you can read my review here. It’s not as good or as scary or as funny as the first one. Released: 6th September

The Farewell

This looks emotional and I’ve heard great things about it. Awkwafina leads this comedy-drama about a family who throw a fake wedding to say goodbye to their beloved matriarch, the only one who doesn’t know she’s got weeks left to live. I imagine tears will be shed. Released: 20th September

Hustlers

This is the release I’m probably the most excited for this month. Strippers scamming rich guys out of their money?! Yes please! Hustlers, which is based on a true story, stars Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu and soooo many other celebs like Cardi B, Lizzo and Julia Stiles. This looks like a lot of fun! So up my street. Released: 13th September

Ready or Not

This is another one I’ve read rave reviews about. This black comedy horror stars Samara Weaving as a newlywed who becomes hunted by her husband’s family as part of their wedding night ritual. This sounds mental and fun and Adam Brody‘s in it!! Released: 27th September

Ad Astra

I saw this at the Venice Film Festival last week and it was beautiful, ambitious and quite unexpected. Brad Pitt stars as an astronaut who travels across the solar system to find his missing father who is believed to be causing The Surge, disastrous surges of power across the globe. You can read my review here. Released: 18th September

The Goldfinch

This is the highly anticipated adaptation of Donna Tartt‘s bestselling novel, which I honestly found a struggle to read. The film follows the life of Theo Decker (Ansel Elgort) who has a troubled childhood and eventually enters the world of art forgery. Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson and Jeffrey Wright co-star. Released: 27th September
