How are we in April already?! We are, yet again, at the start of another month which means it’s time for my movie preview.
Here are my cinema recommendations for April.
Shazam!
I never thought I’d put Shazam! on this list because I thought it looked rubbish, but I’ve seen it and can actually say it’s pretty great. It’s a lot of fun and a much-needed light-hearted edition to the DCEU. It basically follows teenager Billy (Asher Angel) who is given the ability to turn into an adult caped superhero (Zachary Levi) whenever he yells Shazam! A delightful surprise. Review here. Released: 5th April
Pet Sematary
I’m not one for horrors but the recent adaptation of Stephen King’s It was so good I feel like I should watch the latest remake of Pet Sematary starring Jason Clarke and Amy Seimetz. They move to a new house with their kids which has a mysterious burial ground in the woods nearby. John Lithgow is also in it, so that’s another plus. The trailer makes me think it’s gonna be scary stuff. Review here. Released: 4th April
Wild Rose
I have heard amazing things about Wild Rose since it showed at the London Film Festival. The fantastic Jessie Buckley plays Rose, a troubled woman from Glasgow who is determined to make her dreams of becoming a Nashville country star a reality. This also has Julie Walters, Sophie Okonedo and original songs in it so sign me up!! Released: 12th April
Little
This list needed a comedy and Little is definitely the one. It stars Regina Hall as a tough tech mogul who switches with her 13-year-old self. Her assistant (Issa Rae) helps her get back to normal. This looks like a lot of fun. Released: 12th
Avengers: Endgame
Well, obviously!!!! I don’t think this even needs an explanation. I cannot wait to see how it concludes. I predict tears. Released: 25th April
Greta
I’m onboard as soon as a film is described as a psychological thriller and this has the added benefit of starring Isabella Huppert and Chloe Grace Moretz. She plays a young girl who befriends a widower who comes obsessed with her. Released: 19th April
Eighth Grade
This has taken its sweet time getting a UK film release after earning rave reviews at film festivals last year. Not an awful lot happens but it’s so great. It basically follows 13-year-old Kayla (Elsie Fisher) as she battles the ups and down of eighth grade. Released: 26th April
