Top Films for July

Where is this year going?! It feels like I did the June movie preview just yesterday, but here we are again, with the monthly movie preview for July.

So, look no further, here’s what I recommend for the month ahead:

Swimming with Men

This British comedy had me in stitches. It stars Rob Brydon as an accountant having some some of existential crisis – he hates his job and is convinced his wife is cheating on him – so he joins a men’s synchronised swimming team. It is hilarious and features a terrific ensemble cast including Daniel Mays, Adeel Akhtar and Jim Carter. Released: 6th July

To be honest, this isn’t really my vibe but I will generally watch Dwayne Johnson in anything. Hopefully it is better than the trailers! He plays a war veteran (of course) who now assesses the security of skyscrapers. One day, the tallest, safest skyscraper in Hong Kong is set on fire and he’s framed for it. He must clear his name, find out who did it, save his family and the day! Might be a ‘so bad it’s good’ type film. Released: 12th July

Incredibles 2

I must admit, The Incredibles wasn’t anywhere near my favourite Pixar movie and I wasn’t excited for this, especially given that it’s been away for so long, but I have heard amazing things so I will definitely be checking it out. The announced plot doesn’t really give much away, but it says it’s about Mr. Incredible staying at home and looking after the kids while his wife, Elastagirl, is out saving the day. Released: 13th July

Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Tom Cruise and co. are back with more action-packed thrills and ridiculous stunts! Ethan Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force (IMF) have to race against time after a mission goes wrong. Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Ving Rhames return, while Henry Cavill and Vanessa Kirby join. Released: 25th July

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

I LOVE the original Mamma Mia and I have seen it many times so I am very excited about this sequel. I really hope it’s good – cheesy, but good. The main cast – including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and Colin Firth – return for the next outing and are joined by newcomers like Cher and Lily James. The story revolves around Sophie learning about her mother’s past while pregnant herself and will feature many fabulous ABBA songs. Can’t wait! Released: 20th July
