Top Films for April 2018

It’s the start of another month so that can only mean by next monthly movie preview. Here’s what’s coming up in April.

Love, Simon

Love, Simon is one of my favourite films of this year so far! It is the first teen drama by a mainstream studio to be about a closeted gay guy (played by Nick Robinson) who starts up an online romance with an anonymous gay kid from his school. This gave me so many feels (I teared up once or twice) and I came away with such a warm feeling inside. Highly recommend. You can read my review here. Released: 6th April

A Quiet Place

Horror movies aren’t usually my bag, but I have heard very, very good things about A Quiet Place. And you know it’s going to be decent when it stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski (who also directs) as a family who have to live in silence otherwise monsters who hunt using sound will find them. Sounds terrifying! Released: 5th April

Avengers: Infinity War

This is a no-brainer. This what us MCU fans have been waiting for – the big crossover event featuring EVERYBODY from the MCU so far. I don’t know how they’ll do but I’m excited to see what goes down. All our favourites – including Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. – must team up to defeat the evil Thanos. Eeeeek! Released: 26th

I saw Thoroughbreds at LFF (see review) and it is a fun black comedy. Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy are friends who plot to kill Joy’s evil stepdad. Their performances are excellent, and it is one of last roles that the late Anton Yelchin (RIP) did. Released: 6th April

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

This looks like a lovely period drama that my mum would adore. Lily James plays Juliet Ashton, a writer who forms a bond with the residents of Guernsey when she decides to write a book about their experiences in World War II. Also starring Matthew Goode, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Michiel Huisman. Released: 20th April
