Top Films for July

Guys, can you believe it’s July already?! I don’t know how we have got here so quickly but at least it means we are getting closer to some awesome releases.

We are firmly in summer blockbuster season now but July has much more to offer from period dramas to horror. Here are my July highlights.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

I think I must have reached saturation point with superhero movies because haven’t felt particularly excited about this one but Spider-Man is my favourite superhero and I liked Tom Holland‘s portrayal in Civil War so I reckon I’ll like it. This is set after Civil War and features Spidey teaming up with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr). Released: 5th July

It Comes at Night

Just the title alone gives me the creeps. I don’t generally go for horrors but this has a great cast, including Joel Edgerton, and has been raved about by critics. It is set in a world where there is an unknown disease outside and Joel’s safe family hideout is comprised when others join. I expect to jump lots at this! Released: 7th July

War for the Planet of the Apes

The previous two films have been awesome and the critics so far have been glowing so I’m confident this third instalment will be epic. Andy Serkis returns as ape Caesar (via motion capture) who faces off against soldier (Woody Harrelson) in the fight to see which will become the strongest species. Looking forward to it! Released: 11th July

The Beguiled

This has the cast of dreams – Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Colin Farrell – not to mention director Sofia Coppola. Colin plays a Union soldier who seeks shelter at an all-girls school in the South during the Civil War. I haven’t read the book or seen the original so I’m very interested in seeing how it all pans out. Released: 14th July

Dunkirk

I love Christopher Nolan movies so I’m very excited for his next one which is all about the real-life evacuation of Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in France during World War II. It’s gonna be epic and powerful, moving stuff and has an awesome cast which includes Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles in his movie debut. Can’t wait! Released: 21st July

The Big Sick

And now for something completely different – an adorable and uplifting romantic comedy that is based on the real-life story of Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani and his now-wife Emily Gordon. Kumail struggles to tell his family he is dating an American, played by Zoe Kazan, and things get so much worse when she falls into a coma. Yep, that actually happened! Great little indie. Released: 28th July
