Tonight is the first really big awards show of the season – the Golden Globes! Ahead of the show, I have gone through all the nominees and highlighted who I want to win vs. who I think will win.

Check all the nominees and my predictions below. I’ve added comments in brackets if I feel explanations are required:

Best Motion Picture, Drama
Hacksaw Ridge – WANT TO WIN
Hell Or High Water
Lion
Manchester By The Sea – LIKELY TO WIN
Moonlight – LIKELY TO WIN

(This one is actually really hard. Hacksaw, Manchester and Moonlight could all edge it – the latter two have had more awards so far. I loved Lion but it hasn’t had much of a best film campaign).

Best Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy
20th Century Women
Deadpool
La La Land – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Florence Foster Jenkins
Sing Street

Best Performance By an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
Amy Adams, Arrival
Jessica Chastain, Miss Sloane
Isabelle Huppert, Elle
Ruth Negga, Loving – WANT TO WIN
Natalie Portman, Jackie – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN

Best Performance By an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Emma Stone, La La Land – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Annette Bening, 20th Century Women
Lily Collins, Rules Don’t Apply
Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins
Hailee Steinfeld, The Edge of Seventeen

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Joel Edgerton, Loving
Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge – WANT TO WIN
Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic
Denzel Washington, Fences

(Casey Affleck has been doing fantastically so far and shows no signs of stopping and while I’m happy for him to win, I would love it if Andrew Garfield got it. I think he’s wonderful).

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy
Ryan Gosling, La La Land – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool – COULD DO IT
Colin Farrell, The Lobster
Hugh Grant, Florence Foster Jenkins
Jonah Hill, War Dogs

Best Performance By an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Mahershala Ali, Moonlight – WILL WIN
Dev Patel, Lion
Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water
Simon Helberg, Florence Foster Jenkins
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nocturnal Animals – WANT TO WIN

Best Performance by Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Viola Davis, Fences
Naomie Harris, Moonlight – LIKELY TO WIN
Nicole Kidman, Lion
Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures
Michelle Williams, Manchester By the Sea – LIKELY TO WIN/WANT TO WIN

(Michelle Williams and Naomie Harris are both incredible and have been doing equally well so far, so it could go either way. Michelle’s performance edged it for me a bit).

Best Director, Motion Picture
Damien Chazelle – La La Land – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Tom Ford – Nocturnal Animals
Mel Gibson – Hacksaw Ridge
Barry Jenkins – Moonlight
Kenneth Lonergan – Manchester By the Sea – COULD DO IT

Best Screenplay, Motion Picture
Damien Chazelle – La La Land
Tom Ford – Nocturnal Animals
Barry Jenkins – Moonlight
Kenneth Lonergan – Manchester By The Sea – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Taylor Sheridan – Hell Or High Water

Original Score, Motion Picture
Arrival
Lion
La La Land – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Moonlight
Hidden Figures

Best Motion Picture, Animated
Kubo and the Two Strings
Moana – COULD WIN/WANT TO WIN
My Life as a Zucchini
Sing
Zootopia – WILL WIN

Best Original Song, Motion Picture
“Cant Stop The Feeling,” Trolls – Justin Timberlake, Max Martin, Shellback
“City Of Stars,” La La Land – Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul – LIKELY TO WIN
“Faith,” Sing – Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco
“Gold,” Gold – Igg Pop & co
“How Far I’ll Go,” Moana – Lin-Manuel Miranda – WANT TO WIN

Best Motion Picture, Foreign Language
Divines, France
Elle, France – WANT TO WIN
Neruda, Chile
The Salesman, Iran/France
Toni Erdmann, Germany – WILL WIN

FYI, I’m putting in the TV categories so you can see who is up for awards but I’m not so well informed on most of these performances/shows so my predictions are few and far between – if I don’t make ‘want to win’ statements, then assume I haven’t seen anything in that category.

Best Television Series, Drama
The Crown
Game Of Thrones
Stranger Things
This Is Us – WANT TO WIN
Westworld – ALSO WANT TO WIN

(I have deliberately left the ‘will win’ blank cos I have NO CLUE. This is a really hard category this year! Any one of these could win).

Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy
Atlanta – WILL WIN
Veep – COULD ALSO WIN
Transparent
Black-ish
Mozart in the Jungle

Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
American Crime
The Dresser
The Night Manager
The Night Of
The People vs. OJ Simpson – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN

Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Rami Malek, Mr. Robot – WILL WIN
Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul
Matthew Reese, The Americans
Liev Schreiber, Ray Donovan
Billy Bob Thornton, Goliath

Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series, Musical, or Comedy
Donald Glover, Atlanta – WILL WIN
Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent
Anthony Anderson, Black-ish
Gael Garcia Bernal, Mozart in the Jungle
Nick Nolte, Graves

Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Drama
Winona Ryder, Stranger Things
Claire Foy, The Crown
Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld – WANT TO WIN
Catriona Balfe, Outlander
Keri Russell, The Americans

(I cannot predict this one either – it reckon it’s between Ryder, Foy and Rachel Wood. Because I’ve only seen Westworld from this list, I’d like her to win).

Best Performance By an Actress in a Television Series, Musical, or Comedy
Rachel Bloom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Sarah Jessica Parker, Divorce
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep – WILL WIN
Issa Rae, Insecure
Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin
Tracee Ellis Ross, Black-ish

Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Riz Ahmed, The Night Of – WANT TO WIN
Bryan Cranston, All The Way
Tom Hiddleston, The Night Manager
John Turturro, The Night Of
Courtney B. Vance, The People v. O.J. Simpson

(All these performances were ace so I have NO idea who will win. I’d love Ahmed to get it but I think he could be beaten by Turturro, and they could both be trumped by the others!)

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Sarah Paulson, The People v. O.J. Simpson – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN
Kerry Washington, Confirmation
Felicity Huffman, American Crime
Charlotte Rampling, London Spy
Riley Keough, The Girlfriend Experience

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television
Sterling K. Brown, The People v. O.J. Simpson – LIKELY TO WIN/WANT TO WIN
Hugh Laurie, The Night Manager
John Travolta, The People v. O.J. Simpson
Christian Slater, Mr. Robot
John Lithgow, The Crown – LIKELY TO WIN

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television
Olivia Colman, The Night Manager
Lena Headey, Game of Thrones
Chrissy Metz, This Is Us
Mandy Moore, This Is Us – WANT TO WIN
Thandie Newton, Westworld – WILL WIN/WANT TO WIN

In case it wasn’t apparent – as a recap, I basically want La La Land, Westworld and the People vs. OJ Simpson to win everything. What film/TV show do you want to come top?
