Calvin Harris & The 1975 at Wireless Festival 2016

Yesterday I went to the Wireless Festival and it was SO. MUCH. FUN! The line-up is pretty shocking this year, I must admit. It’s definitely not worth the money (especially compared to previous years I’ve been) but luckily for me, I got a press pass – which I have never done before! Here’s the lowdown and my pics!

The press side of things isn’t that fancy. The big acts don’t want to do interviews and you’re not allowed in the celeb VIP area, but it’s only Z-listers in there anyway. So I pretty much shunned that area (except for the quieter toilet block and food stalls!) to go outside and enjoy the show.

I didn’t recognise any of the acts on the two other stages so I just stuck by the main stage. First up was Miguel: I didn’t know any of his music and it’s not really the kind of stuff that works up the crowd tbh. However, he had great stage presence, some sweet dance moves and gave an emotional speech about the shootings in the U.S.

Ditto with The 1975 – I knew perhaps one song and it took a while for them to get the crowd going. Matt Healy seemed like he didn’t give a shit. He had such an air of not wanting to be there – he even wandered off the stage to grab a fag!! He soon loosened up and started enjoying himself – then the crowd did too. Their last few songs were great – it became like a freakin’ party.

Then for the main event – Calvin Harris. I know he’s just a DJ and you could argue that he’s simply pushing buttons, but he’s so much more than that. He knows to create a show, how to get everyone jumping, how to mix other people’s tracks with his (Adele’s Hello, Heads Will Roll etc) and the production values were off the scale – fireworks, fire, lasers, a light show and cool visuals onstage.

He also had a couple of special guests – Big Sean came out for Open Wide then his song I Don’t Fuck With You and Dizzee Rascal rapped to their new track. Dizzee was hilarious – he went down to the crowd, jumped onto the main barrier and FELL INTO THE CROWD! Hahaha he completely disappeared for a few seconds before security hauled him out! Apparently, Will Smith (yes THE Will Smith) came onstage at the start to introduce Calvin – but I missed it!

I didn’t stop dancing the entire time and I ached so much when I got home. The whole crowd were jumping every time the beat dropped and I just didn’t want it to end. For the last three songs we had How Deep is Your Love, Summer and Blame and it was SO good. I was so sad when it was all over and massively buzzing when I got home.

Spotted around the site: Jaden and Willow Smith, Naughty Boy, Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts, Conor Maynard, Jake Sims, Michelle Keegan, and Mark Wright.

Here are all my pics – I didn’t take many cos I wanted to enjoy myself in the moment!
