Met Gala 2016: Best & Worst Dressed

I don’t really remember when the Met Gala became such a big celeb thing but it is, and the fashion is under a microscope on an even more ridiculous scale than the Oscars! I honestly don’t understand why celebs go and put themselves under this pressure to wear something fabulous, something that stands out and something that is in keeping with the theme.

This year the theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age of Technology, which understandably sparked a lot of silver and futuristic clothing – this makes sense and the whole purpose of the event is to go big or stay home, but a lot of the bold choices just didn’t work.

I am not basing my rating on the theme but simply what I like and don’t. For example, Taylor Swift has been my style queen for a while but her dress was so uninspiring and lacklustre, especially as she was the Met Gala co-chair. Beyonce wore an odd latex contraption, Selena Gomez was dull and Alicia Vikander and Brie Larson, both my awards season style heroes, wore very bizarre things. Whereas Claire Danes, Zoe Saldana and Rachel McAdams were stunning! My hands down favourites.

Here are my picks:

What do you think of my choices? What did you think of the outfits overall?

  1. Great post! Lady Gaga and Madonna wore such unflattering costumes, but this is usually the norm for old-school Gaga.

Thank you! I wish Madonna would put her boobs and bum away! But I liked seeing Gaga’s cos it’s a return to her earlier outfits. Those shoes were crazy though! I have no idea how she walked the Met steps!
