Top Films for April

It is the start of April so surprise surprise here is my U.K. preview for April! There are quite a few decent-looking movies coming out this month but I’ve managed to whittle it down to just the five best. I still think Criminal, Eye in the Sky and Miles Ahead look pretty decent, but in terms of excitement, the ones below are where it’s at.

Check it out –

The Huntsman: Winter’s War

Chris Hemsworth returns as Huntsman Eric for this prequel AND sequel to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Charlize Theron also comes back as the evil Queen Ravenna while Emily Blunt plays her sister Freya, who goes all Elsa-from-Frozen. Eric and his wife Sara (Jessica Chastain) must stop Freya from getting Ravenna’s evil mirror. Great action, cheesy romance, hilarious dwarves and Chastain kicking ass! Review on its way. Released: 4th April

Midnight Special

Michael Shannon and Kirsten Dunst are parents to Alton (Jaeden Lieberher) who has special powers and was worshipped by a cult. They are on a frantic journey with pal Lucas (Joel Edgerton) to take Alton to a prophesised destination with Government agents, including Adam Driver, and cult members on their tail. A smart, mysterious and totally captivating sci-fi with a powerful emotional heart. Review coming this week. Released: 8th April

Bastille Day

This looks like a mind-numbing action thriller but it is way better than I could have imagined. It is witty, funny and the action scenes are terrific. Idris Elba is a CIA agent stationed in Paris working on anti-terrorism. A bomb goes off thanks to pickpocket Michael (Richard Madden) who had stolen the wrong bag. It has buddy cop vibes, their chemistry is hilarious and it never feels totally serious. Elba is a kick-ass action hero. Released: 22nd April

Captain America: Civil War

Move over Batman and Superman – now, THIS is a superhero movie I’m excited about. I love the Marvel movies and so many of the cast are back – Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Paul Rudd, to name a few (so many more). Political interference regarding superheroes’ accountability causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man – and all hell breaks loose (obviously!) The trailer is awesome and I cannot wait. Released: 29th April

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

I don’t know much about this except it’s a wartime comedy-drama starring Tina Fey, Margot Robbie and Martin Freeman. It is about a journalist’s time covering the war inside Afghanistan. I love Tina Fey and have high hopes. Released: 22nd April
