David Bowie memorial: Picture gallery

Today I decided to head down to the memorial set up in honour of David Bowie in his home town of Brixton, south London but I was not preparing for how emotional it would be.

Obviously I know his key songs, but I am not clued up on his career, his impact on popular culture and I do not have a clue about his back catalogue. I like him but I could not call myself a massive fan. I was completely shocked by his death but I was not upset simply because I had no personal/childhood connection to him.

Brixton is so close to me so I was interested to pop along and see the impact he had on the public. I thought I would be fine heading down the memorial, but seeing how much he affected people brought tears to my eyes and then when I read tributes I properly cried! How embarrassing! But some were so heartfelt.

The pile of flowers is much larger than I expected. There were candles, cards, laminated messages, pictures and a guitar plus so many notes scrawled on either side of the mural – including the Morley’s shop on the left. The crowd visiting it was massive too – I was there for 15-20 minutes and it never let up.

Here are my pictures:
