Dressed By Angels: Costume exhibition highlights

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones

I am a massive film geek in general, but I love costumes and props so I have to check out any exhibition where I can get up close and see the detail of the designs with my own eyes. If you’re like me I would recommend you head down to the Dressed By Angels exhibition in Shoreditch.

I have been to many costume exhibitions so I thought this temporary space at the Old Truman Brewery off Brick Lane would be naff compared to the V&A for example. But it so much better than I thought and definitely worth the £16 price tag (but you can get a decent discount online!) It is not just film costumes either – it is basically a history of the Angels the Costumiers, the family-run costume business. They supplied designs to films, TV, stage shows and general fancy gear for rich people – so there is an interesting mix.

They have some proper decent film outfits too like Titanic – from the key scene where Jack and Rose are at the front of the cruise ship – plus some gorgeous and intricate royal gowns like Cate Blanchett’s Elizabeth and TV show pieces from Doctor Who, Game of Thrones (above) and Downton Abbey.

I would encourage you all to go! I have posted my highlights below. The exhibition runs until 3rd January 2016.
