Top Films for August

It’s that time again… new month, a ton of new movies coming your way and here’s my list of must-see films this August.

Fantastic Four

While I don’t think a reboot is necessary and I groaned when it was announced, I am still really intrigued to see how Josh Trank (Chronicle) handles the foursome who turn into superheroes when exposed to comic radiation. This time around Miles Teller is Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara is Sue Storm, plus Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell as The Thing. There have been no preview screenings for this which is ominous but the trailers are promising. Released: 6th August

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Set in the 1960s, a U.S. agent (Henry Cavill) has to team up with his enemy, a KGB operative (Armie Hammer) to take down a criminal organisation. I know nothing about the TV series but from the trailers this looks both exciting and fun. Released: 14th August

I have been lucky enough to see Trainwreck already and it is SO.DAMN.FUNNY! Amy Schumer writes and stars in this rom com about a heavy-drinking, smoking promiscuous writer who is given a feature to write about sports doctor Aaron Conners (Bill Hader) and she tries to prevent a monogamous relationship happening although she likes him. It is hilarious and not as soppy as the usual rom com. Released: 14th August

Paper Towns

Here we see model Cara Delevingne in her first lead role so naturally I’m going to check out and see if her American accent cuts it. I have read the book by John Green and I enjoyed it a lot so I have high hopes, especially after the success of The Fault in Our Stars. Cara stars as Margo, who enlists her neighbour Quentin (Nat Wolff) on a late night revenge mission. The following day she goes missing and Quentin tries to track her down. Released: 17th August

American Ultra

I am excited for this because you never see Kristen Stewart do comedy and I think her pairing with Jesse Eisenberg as a couple of stoners is just perfect. Eisenberg’s character is actually a government agent, but he doesn’t know it until his super soldier skills are activated. His parent organisation want to terminate him so he must outsmart them to stay alive. This looks genius. Released: 28th  August

Straight Outta Compton

I love a good biopic and I know nothing the rap group N.W.A. This basically charts the early beginnings of the group – starring Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube – in the 1980s and how their revolutionary rap sound changed music and gang culture. Released: 28th August
