Comic-Con highlights: Suicide Squad, Batman V Superman, Deadpool & Star Wars

This weekend in film news is ALL about the San Diego Comic Con because so many panels have been held to promote TV shows and movies, and it is pretty hard to keep up with all the news. Basically, for me, the biggest news is the latest trailers for the upcoming superhero films Suicide Squad, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Deadpool. And while it has no new trailer, I was so psyched about the Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens panel that I simply need to talk about it.

Suicide Squad

The official trailer has now been put online since its debut inside Hall H. It looks very dark and it is basically about a team of villains who are put together to fight evil. I’m still not sold on the idea but the trailer has impressed me. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Deadshot (Will Smith) get the most screen time but Jared Leto‘s The Joker got the biggest cheer at Comic-Con. And rightly so, he looks batshit crazy. I never thought anyone could match Heath Ledger’s Joker but Leto’s performance looks amazing. You can watch it here:

Again, this another leaked trailer from the Deadpool presentation, which stars Ryan Reynolds. It is very funny, rude and definitely not family friendly. Expect a lot of swearing and a lot of blood. We haven’t had a seriously grown-up superhero movie for a while so this is refreshing, but for me, at the moment, the tone feels weird. I think I need to see another trailer later on before I can get excited. Watch it before it gets taken down here:

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

Now we have seen trailer for this before but this is the first time I have actually felt excited or positive about it. Every other time I just thought it looked SO terrible, but this trailer, which was released online after its showing at Comic Con, has filled me with hope. As you know, Ben Affleck is Batman and he is going to go up against Henry Cavill‘s Superman. It looks serious, it looks pretty dark and we get our first glimpse at Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Now, JJ Abrams & co didn’t drop a new trailer (we won’t get another one until the autumn) but the panel was still so exciting because it was the first time all the key cast members were there – including ‘the dark side’ who have been hidden from the press until now. Adam Driver was already known to be Kylo Ren, and we had our suspicions that Gwendoline Christie‘s Captain Phasma (a female Stormtrooper) was a baddie, but nothing official had been said about Domhnall Gleeson‘s role and now we finally know he’s EEEEEVIL. He plays General Hux, a leading officer of the The First Order. I’m so happy to finally know this and as a fan of his, I’m interested to see him play bad.

Here’s a picture of the evil guys:

Besides a surprise appearance from Harrison Ford, who was recovering from his plane crash earlier this year, the most exciting thing was a behind-the-scenes look at the sets, props and practical effects.

Which of these are you most excited about? What other panels from Comic Con did you enjoy?
