Bad Blood Music Video: Was it worth the hype?

Taylor Swift started getting us excited for last night’s premiere of the Bad Blood video weeks ago – revealing movie posters of all the AMAZING stars it (see them all here). So naturally, everyone was massively hyped waiting for it to come online after its Billboard Music Awards debut – but was it worth the wait? Holy crap, yes!

Bad Blood is probably the most ambitious video I have seen in a long time and I have to applaud Taylor for that. This reminds me of the days when videos were epic and it is so cinematic – with certain bits making me think of Sin City, Kill Bill, Fifth Element, Minority Report and Resident Evil. It was so badass, with amazing stunts, impressive CGI, oodles of girl power, an interesting storyline and a brilliant cast. It looks hella expensive.

I had wondered if the track would be changed when singers outside of Taylor’s squad were announced and I was right. Kendrick Lamar takes over the verses and the single has been significantly changed from the album version, which is a huge relief, as the video wouldn’t have worked without that new beat and Lamar’s rap gives it a great edge. I didn’t think Bad Blood was a worthy single before, but now I’ve changed my mind.

As I predicted, those outside of her friendship group – Cindy Crawford, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay et al – didn’t have much to do and only had cameos. It was Taylor’s main set of friends that had top parts with longtime buddy Selena Gomez getting the most interesting villain character. I also loved Zendaya, Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss – they looked so freaking badass.

Also on a side note, the costumes, hairs and weapons were absolutely genius (I especially loved Tay channelling Toxic era Britney Spears at the end). She had so many costume changes (by fav being the above spiked bra!) The whole thing was AWESOME. There is so much going on that I’ve seen it three times and I’ve noticed new things with each watch. It’s exactly what I wanted and more. This is definitely staying on repeat.
