I was very lucky that I managed to go to the Avengers: Age of Ultron press conference in London on Tuesday as well as the premiere and although they did say a few interesting nuggets of information, I found it more interesting to watch their behaviour because they all get on so well together.

They were all fun and making jokes, usually to one another like they would on set. One of the actors would crack a joke and they would all chime in and go off topic. When the moderator asked director Joss Whedon if that’s how they are on set, he replied, “No, some of them are paying attention (here)”. So you can only imagine what filming must have been like!

I found Chris Evans quite funny as he said “nailed it!” a couple of times after finishing a question like he was proud of his answer. One time, Robert Downey Jr said, “Can we all agree that Evans is on damn fire today?!”

Another highlight was Robert calling for a wardrobe change halfway through the conference, interrupting to say, “I’m sorry it’s been 15 minutes since my last wardrobe change”. His nearby assistant brought him a different pair of sunglasses and a leather jacket. It was HILARIOUS.

Anyway, you want to hear about what they actually said. Here are highlights which prove the jokey nature of their working relationship.

What are you most excited about when returning to the Avengers?

Elizabeth Olsen: Cooking and eating (she didn’t understand the question)

Jeremy Renner: I’m excited about hanging out with these degenerates.

Mark Ruffalo: Coming back to the world and seeing where these crazy people we’re playing are headed and knowing that Joss is going to take us there into his own twisted psyche.

Robert: Probably my first costume fitting: me surrounded by many full-length mirrors.

Chris: I’ll have a similar response to Jeremy. Marvel does a great job of bringing all the same people back, not just in front of the camera but behind the camera so coming back together as a group, it kind of feels like a family, it’s a lot of familiar faces, it’s like a high school reunion.

Elizabeth: I didn’t understand the question…

Robert: Yeah, as soon as you said cooking, I was like ‘she doesn’t get it’…

Scarlett Johansson: I get most excited about reading Joss’ script because it’s like the payoff after a long wait and also the cover letters before the script are so delightful and self-depreciating so that’s my favourite part.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson: I’m just excited to be a part of it, you know. Joss brought me along on this journey and into this fantastic group of actors.

Paul Bettany: Box office bonuses.

Mark: You got box office bonuses?!

Besides your own character, who had the most interesting story arc in the upcoming movie? CAUTION: SOME SPOILERS.

Robert: Hawkeye’s got a heck of an arc this time. Also, I can say for us that I have gone before… Paul has an interesting turn, and also with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch…  I feel like Paul, Lizzie and Aaron came out and they exceeded expectations left, right and centre field. In watching the film, I was like ‘wow’, that’s the big triumph of the film.

Chris: I liked Scarlett and Ruffalo… it was nice seeing the intimate moments between Scarlett and Ruffalo in this challenged relationship… in a team of superheros you don’t get to see romance, especially within the group…

Scarlett: I thought Joss’ arc was really interesting.

Aaron: I agree with Chris, it was great to dive into Mark Ruffalo’s character more and see such a sensibility in that beast and it was quite an emotional journey.

Paul: Hawkeye. For me, it was the heart of the movie. I found it very moving and he’s fantastic in it.

Mark: I would also have to say I found Hawkeye’s storyline great as an actor who is often away from home fighting imaginary evil guys and the wife whose at home saying ‘where the hell are you?’ and ‘why aren’t you here?’ I’m very sympathetic to that.

Jeremy: I liked them all, I’m not going to pick one out. I think it’s a huge, huge testament to Joss to be able to write a movie to put all these characters that are all extremely interesting and flawed and fantastic. It’s like a chess board: you need all these pieces for any of them to make sense.

Paul: (to Jeremy) You should have picked me because I picked you.

Stay tuned for more quotes from the press conference.
