Andy Serkis on the Jungle Book and Star Wars at Empire Film Awards

IMG_20150329_170357 Today I braved the wind and rain (and there was a lot of rain!) to check out the red carpet for the Empire Film Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. There were a ton of big names (check out the list below) but sadly most of them didn’t stop for interviews and went straight to the party. Andy Serkis, the lovely man that he is, stopped to chat to everyone and was so, so nice. Also, what a fabulous shirt choice?! So we got a few minutes with him chatting about his directing/acting job on The Jungle Book and the hush-hush roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Do you feel pressure being in these huge franchises? There’s always pressure. There’s HUGE expectation both for Avengers and Star Wars and Jungle Book that I’m directing, so yeah, but it’s exciting. It keeps you on your toes.

Tell us about the Jungle Book.  Jungle Book hopefully will be a big change in the perception because we’re moving in a very different way from the Disney Jungle Book we all grew up with. Our version is incredibly different and so that will be nice to give the audience a taste of something completely different and very much closer to Rudyard Kipling’s (novel).

What was the most secretive project in terms of viewing the script? It was definitely Star Wars. Going in and leaving bags, phones outside, being monitored, CCTV cameras in the room, only having a certain amount of time… you’re not allowed to take the script out. You can understand.

Who do you play? I don’t know…I’ve been brainwashed, I can’t even remember.

Also at the bash: Henry Cavill, Christopher Nolan, Jessica Chastain, Ralph Fiennes, Simon Pegg, Mark Strong, Olga Kurylenko, Freddie Highmore, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Karen Gillan and Peter Capaldi. James McAvoy, Liam Neeson and Daniel Radcliffe also attended but they did not do the red carpet so I didn’t even see them!

I managed to grab a few pics – so click on the thumbnails below. Click here for the winners.
