Top Films for February

My top film recommendations for this month are:

This biopic of civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr. depicts a small period in his life where he organises three marches between Selma and Montgomery in Alabama in the 1960s to campaign for the black vote. David Oyelowo gives a storming performance as King and was totally robbed of an Oscar nomination. Review to come. Released: 6th February

Well of course I have to see this thanks to Jennifer Aniston’s Golden Globe nomination. The drama follows Claire, who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support group. The story sounds pretty bleak but I have to see Aniston’s drama turn. Released: 20th February

I’ve read the bestselling book by E.L. James so naturally I want to see this. This overhyped erotic thriller (for those who don’t know) is about businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) who embarks on a dominant/submissive S&M relationship with student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). It’s been rated 18, so expect it to be kinky and expect critics to trash it even if they secretly liked it. Released: 13th February

This sci-fi thriller looks right up my street. A group of teenagers find plans for a time machine and decide to build it. Things soon spiral out of control. Excited! Released: 20th February

I really enjoyed the first film so I love that all the old cast are back plus newbies Richard Gere and Tamsin Greig. Sonny’s (Dev Patel) Indian hotel for the elderly has become a hit and he is now looking to expand, all while preparing to get married. Released: 26th February

Will Smith is a veteran con artist who takes Margot Robbie under his wing to teach her the tricks of the trade but they break up their partnership when they get romantically involved. Things soon get complicated when they find themselves on opposite sides of a con years later. Released: 27th February
