Felicity Jones on researching The Theory of Everything

I managed to grab a quick chat with Felicity Jones at the U.K. premiere of The Theory of Everything and she told me about her possible Golden Globe nomination and researching the role of Jane Hawking, physicist Stephen Hawking’s first wife.

How would you feel about being nominated for an award?

It would be absolutely fantastic. It’s so flattering even to have your name mentioned in those words, so it would be remarkable.  It’s a film I’m so, so incredibly proud of so if that also means people keep watching it then that’s a brilliant thing.

How did you research the role of a carer?

I spent time with a woman who was very, very candid and spoke to me very openly – her husband has MND (motor neurone disease) and he has three girls – I just spent time with her to understand what it was like to go through that. It’s complicated because your relationship with your husband changes so dramatically, it becomes a nurse/carer situation that’s hard for both people so I was lucky that I had such openness from people who were supportive and helped out.

Since our chat, Felicity and her co-star Eddie Redmayne have been nominated for Screen Actors Guild awards.
