Kelly Rowland reveals Beyonce jealousy in new track

You could always imagine that Kelly Rowland would be jealous of Beyoncé’s solo success since they started out in the business together and have been close for many years.

Until now, Kelly has never said a bad word about her Destiny’s Child bandmate and has always been supportive. However, in her new single, Dirty Laundry, she comes clean about her feelings during Beyoncé’s rise to success.

The first verse goes as follows (caution: it contains LOTS of expletives):

“While my sister was on stage, killing it like a motherfucker
I was enraged, feeling it like a motherfucker
Bird in a cage, you would never know what I was dealing with
Went out separate ways, but I was happy she was killing it
Bittersweet, she was up, I was down
No lie, I feel good for her, but what do I do now?
Forget the records
Off the record, I was going through some bullshit
Post-survivor, she on fire, who wanna hear my bullshit?
Meanwhile, this nigga putting his hands on me
I swear y’all don’t know the half of this industry”

Yes, she also talks about an abusive relationship in which her partner which made her “hate everybody”, saying “he turned me against my sister [meaning B]”. The song then focuses on this relationship and here is another segment from the last verse.

“Nobody can know this
And I was trapped in his house, lyin’ to my mama
Thought it could get no worse as we maximize the drama
Started to call them people on him
I was battered
He hittin the window like it was me, until it shattered”

It is horrible to think that this happened to her in this relationship and she is so brave at getting out of that situation and speaking up about it now. I just wonder what Beyoncé will think about all this. It isn’t surprising that she thought those things but it is that she has decided to talk about them because now the whole world knows about her resentment towards B. The public will always feel more strongly towards B so I don’t think this single is particularly endearing for Kelly and may actually make her worse off. No one likes sour grapes.

Actually, I think that this may be the catalyst to bring them closer. As I stated in my post on this topic (The envy of all women, crushed linen)-the industry has always compared the girls usually with Kelly coming up short. Beyonce’s success is welll deserved. She is very talented. So is Kelly. It is just one of the instances in which some just outshine others. Coupled with existing in Beyonce’s shadow, I can see how a predator can swoop in and become abusive. Thank God that kelly didn’t succumb to the petty jealousies like the other 2 original members.

I completely agree with you and I hope this song does bring them together rather than drive a wedge between them. Kelly is very talented and I hope this song isn’t seen as petty jealousy among others. They will always be compared as they both started in the same band and it will be tough for Kelly to reach the sort of success that Beyonce has now. She did very well at the start of her solo career with Can’t Nobody/ Stole etc, but success seems to have petered out on the music front. Thanks for your comment 🙂
