JLS announce split

UK boyband JLS have announced that they will part ways after five years together.

The group, who shot to fame on The X Factor, will do a farewell tour and a greatest hits album before they officially split.

Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, JB Gill and Oritse Williams shot to fame in 2008 when they came runner-up to Alexandra Burke on The X Factor. A year later, they signed to Epic Records and their first two singles- Beat Again and Everybody in Love- went in at number one.

None of the boys have explained the split exactly, they just keep saying it is time. I reckon it’s because they want to do their own thing and that the sales for their last album, Evolution, wasn’t brilliant. They only released two songs off it. The second, Hold Me Down, only reached 112. I think that concludes my point!

Aston is now a judge on Got To Dance, Marvin is a DJ for Capital FM and he is soon to be a father. Today, Oritse signed up to new management and created a solo Twitter page. I think the guys just had more plans outside the band than for the band, so they decided to call it quits.

Aston spoke about the split, saying “It’s just that time. We are still best of friends and always will be- but this is the end.”

Marvin said: “It’s an emotional time. There’s no getting away from that. We have been through so much together. But we have to be mature and look at this decision as a celebration of what we managed to achieve. We never wanted to overstay our welcome.”

Celebrities have been talking about the band on Twitter including Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke, Caroline Flack, Rochelle Humes and the One Direction boys.

It is pretty sad because I loved their songs but we haven’t much from them recently and their last album wasn’t as good. I’m glad they’ve split now before they flop completely, so we can remember how good they were.
