Girls Aloud split for good

They always said that they were unsure of what would happen after their tour and it turns out that Girls Aloud are finally going their separate ways.

The group announced their split just hours after completing their 20-date Ten: Greatest Hits tour in Liverpool.

Nicola, Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberley and Sarah made the announcement via Twitter, saying: “Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade.”

They continued: “It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!!Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together . Love you lots.”

Fans were both gutted at their split and annoyed at how they delivered the news. Understandably so. During the reunion press conference, Cheryl did say,”we haven’t actually made any plans further than the tour”, which hints at them going back to their usual business. It wasn’t clear though and obviously fans had hoped they would stay together for a bit longer, especially as they had been apart for three years. It now seems to me that they just got back together to earn some money with a greatest hits album and tour!

The kicker for fans is that the girls didn’t mention anything during the tour. They could have said it on the last night, face to face with the fans, instead of doing via Twitter. They clearly knew about the split a while ago.

There also seems to be animosity in the ranks as Nadine took to Twitter to reveal she didn’t back their split.

She wrote: “You should know by now I had no part in any of this split business. I couldn’t stop them. I had the best time & want to keep going. Xxxx”

Ouch! Okay, she may not have agreed with the decision but publicly badmouthing the others such a short time after their announcement leaves a sour taste in the mouth. It makes it seem like they ended on a bitter note, not a positive one. Let’s see what the girls get up to now!
